Shelley Morningsong wins “Record of the Year”

Albuquerque, N.M. [November, 2011] – Albuquerque resident, Shelley Morningsong, is a Native American (N.Cheyenne) famed singer, songwriter, and independent recording artist, and is known as one of today’s top artists of Native American contemporary music. On October 7th, 2011 Morningsong took home the Native American Music Award for “Record of the Year” for her new album, “Full Circle”, held in Niagara, New York. With her native influences, Morningsong brings a strong and moving element of native spirituality and tradition woven with contemporary music.

When Shelley arrived on the scene in 2007 with her first album “Out of the Ashes”, she won the N.A.M.A. for “Debut Artist of the Year”, the New Mexico music award for “Best Native Contemporary”, and the Wisconsin music award for “Classic Rock.  Once again Morningsong brings a powerful new album to the table and she is a force to be reckoned with. Patience and hard work have paid off for this Native American songbird. Partnering up with Grammy Award winning producer/guitar virtuoso Larry Mitchell and Shelley’s husband, Fabian Fontenelle (Zuni, Omaha), has also proved to be a winning team.

Morningsong embraces Native America and the world as a whole with her songs of compassion and understanding for all races and the joys and sorrows we all experience. As she states in the lyrics of one of her songs “Everything is One Thing”.

Shelley Morningsong has been singing since early childhood. She grew up in the city of Los Angeles where she was surrounded by an enormous array of musical influences.  She was the lead singer for a Country Rock band called “Hearts of the West” and has also performed with the likes of Charlie Daniels and Juice Newton as she toured along the California coast. Morningsong would like to thank her family, the fans, and the many beautiful people she has met along the way on this amazing journey called life.
